The 2008 Summer Junior Ranger Program, held in June, was able to provide two-week internships for 20 Junior Rangers thanks to the generosity of Mrs. Ruth S. Hamilton and Mrs. Becky Hamilton who made a donation to Friends of Radnor Lake in loving memory of Dr. William M. Hamilton and William M. Hamilton, Jr.
“I love Radnor Lake”
This year I participated in the Junior Ranger Program for the first time. My motives for action were not because I enjoy waking up early on summer mornings, and not because I’m particularly fond of manual labor. I signed up for Junior Rangers because I love Radnor Lake.
The Junior Ranger Program, funded by Friends of Radnor Lake, invites high school kids to help out around the park and have fun together. I knew next to nothing about the program in the beginning, but many friends had recommended it to me so I gave it a shot. Every day we would work hard whether we were moving gravel and mulch, repairing trails, hauling wood, or picking out weeds. We all worked for the same reason: to benefit Radnor Lake. It was encouraging to hear all the park visitors thanking us for our work while we were working (and sweating) on the trails.
At the end of the week we went to the Buffalo River in Flatwoods, Tennessee. Our goal was to pick up trash, and there was plenty of it. Being there made me thankful for Radnor and all the effort people put into keeping it clean. The goal of the Junior Ranger program is simple: to protect and preserve Radnor Lake. The program is a success because that is one thing so many people want to do.
