Welcome Otter Rabies Awareness Program

Rabies Awareness Program

Rabies WatchSince April of 2006, there have been 11 confirmed cases of rabies in skunks within the Radnor Lake area. To date, there has been only one confirmed case of rabies within the skunk population at Radnor Lake. All other confirmed cases have been in the City of Oak Hill and/or the City of Forest Hills.

Friends of Radnor Lake, Metro/Davidson Health Department, and the park staff have hosted a public meeting for residents of Oak Hill and Forest Hills to specifically address this recent discovery of rabies within the skunk population. Over 70 residents attended the meeting at the Radnor Lake Visitor Center.

In addition, public information has been posted and distributed thru mailings, brochures, and signs updating neighbors and visitors on how they should respond if more of these cases occur.

Park ranger staff continue to work with the residents of Oak Hill, Forest Hills, and park visitors to aggressively monitor any further cases of rabies in the skunk population within the Radnor Lake area.

For more information regarding rabies in the Radnor Lake area, please contact the Visitor Center at (615) 373-3467.
